This is one of the best books in the compelling series, but works well as a stand-alone novel for those who aren’t familiar with the characters. “Gathering Prey” by bestselling author John Sandford (Putnam, $28.95) is the 25th in his exceptionally popular series starring Lucas Davenport, lead investigator of Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
